High Heels
The reason that many people wear high heels is to make them look more attractive and in a way that goes against what tznius is trying to prevent- I do think that with heels it depends on the type of shoe and the hight. (anonumus, 21)
Some people look better or are more comftorble in heels. but if its 5 inches on a 14 yr old thats a little much...14
So does it matter how old the girl is then?
Absolutly
Why should age matter? If a 90 year old is wearing 5inch black lether boots is that okay? She’s not 12 anymore.... Or a 21 year old with nice legs wearing 7 inch heels...she probably looks great in them!
In response to one of the comments and a correction. lt is a misnomer to think that tznius is trying to prevent one from looking attractive. Tznius is NOT trying to prevent a woman from looking attractive. There is a difference between attractive and attracting.
The physical aspect of being Tznius is there to show that people are more than their bodies - they are a soul with self-worth and dignity. Tznius enables people to see that and to show that!
The other aspect of being tznius can be expressed through our personality. It is manifested to show that there is a greater awareness for others and G-d beyond oneself. (Age 21)
This is a beautiful comment.
In regards to high-heels however, no one is being less attractive and some would say that their personality is shining through...but others might say that their legs and other body parts are also shining through because the heels help draw their attention.
Personally, I don't wear heels. I wouldn't say that they're not tznius though. Maybe it depends on the how a person wears them and how they feel when they wear them.
For example, someone who loves being stylish and putting themselves together probably feels like a slob in flats. Heels are just a part of how they put themselves together. They feel good about themselves and they're just putting together a fashionable ensemble.
A different woman, who feels more themselves in flats and never wears heels, would feel awkward in heels and way too overdone. They'd be walking differently and feel like they were pretending to be someone else.
If tznius is to show our true self, then it would make sense that someone's personality dictates their sensitivities. The Torah makes a firm line on certain things, but other areas like heels and nail polish are subjective for each person. (Age 26)
So is it subjective to the person wearing the heels (or nail polish) or to people who see them wearing it?
What if you walk more proudly when wearing heels? Or feel more prideful? Is prideful associated with "not tzniusdick"?
