Open Toe Shoes
I feel like taking on tights goes with taking on closed toe shoes... though i know people who wear closed toe shoes but not tights.. i wonder why that is? Is there somewhere that says that showing ur legs are ok but not feet? (DasTorah20)
I think its much more of a social norm thing...
Do you think it matters when one where closed toe shoes and when one where open toe shoes? Example: beach vs. school, hanging out with friends vs. davening, running a marathon vs. baking at home...etc.
I'm confused. I'm in my late 50's. I grew up in a chasidishe-light home in boro park. We never heard of an issue with open toe shoes. In fact, at my Bais Yaakov graduation, I remember one of the teachers making sure our stocking toe lines were straight if we wore open toe shoes. When did they become an issue? (Age 56)
I find it interesting that this has not been a custom for so long. The way many women (and men) treat this topic suggests that this has been a tradtion/Halacha for centuries. Thank you for letting us see the other side.
I have heard that many people will not daven with shoes that show off their toes or foot in any way, because it is not giving the proper kavod to Hashem. Maybe we have taken this idea to other areas of our lives as well, and not just during davening...?
As far as I know the shoes and legs issue goes according to minhag hamakom. Is there a halacha about covering toes during davening? Or just to wear shoes period. be it opened or closed? (Age

Someone mentioned to me a concept that I often think about now: tights are like sleeves for your legs...what is the difference between a KiKiRiKi (with a shirt on top of it even) and tights? They are both skin-tight...
