All Girls Environment
Do we need to follow the laws of Tzniut in an all-girls environment?
As far as I know, no. But certain laws of Tzniut must be kept while reciting a beracha even in all girls - or even when alone. (age 27)
Why do you think this is?
I think it comes back to the “spirit” of modesty... that you are always standing before Hashem. Yes, He loves you for who you are regardless of what you are wearing, but out of respect for Him- you are standing in front of the King of the whole world!- you should be dressed modestly. I think therefore - though I don’t know much about the Halacha in this case- it would seem based on Tali’s comment above that the Rabbis instituted this idea for a reason. Yes, when one is standing before the King it is proper to be modest even if not specifically required to be, but kal vchomer if I am TALKING to the King, i.e making a bracha, thus this is on a greater level and thus modest dress is required. (age 21)
I think also it is definitely different in terms of potentially 'placing a stumbling block' before a guy if it were a mixed environment, whereas if it was all girls that consideration wouldn't come into play. (age 22)
What consideration WOULD come into play in an all girls environment?
I think that although certain rules of modesty wouldn't apply, the spirit of modesty should still apply even amongst girls. The rules of dress in regards to distracting men aren't relevant. But seeing themselves in the image of Hashem is still relevant.
For example, at a slumber party, it's no problem for the girls to wear t-shirts and PJ pants. But it would be inappropriate to do a pole dancing workout video. Sorry if that's a weird example...it popped into my head! (Age 26)
Not weird at all. But still, why would that be "inappropriate"? Does it make a difference if you are alone or with other women to do/wear certain things?
